Option 1: McCarthyism and Anti-Communist Campaigns
The Cold War brought about an irrational fear of communism and communist activities in the United States. As we are learning this week, one of the most vocal instigators of this paranoia was Senator Joseph McCarthy. McCarthy delivered a speech about the imminent threat of communism on February 9, 1950. Perform a search on the internet and locate and read Joseph McCarthy’s speech given in Wheeling, West Virginia on February 9, 1950. Copy and paste the following keywords into your Google search bar: “Joseph McCarthy, Wheeling, West Virginia.” The speech is also referred to as “Enemies from Within.”
4 scholarly sources required
Construct the case study by responding to the following prompts:
Explain how Senator Joseph McCarthy defined communist nations within the speech. What specific threats did these nations pose?
Assess if Senator Joseph McCarthy charges were accurate.
Analyze anti-communist sentiments during the Cold War era, were these sentiments valid. If so, how? If not, why not?
Explain if there are other examples of events similar to the Red Scare that have occurred throughout history and modern day.
Examine what happened to people who invoked the Fifth Amendment, refused to appear or were found in violation of the law as defined by the Congressional Committee.

SCENARIO: Your workplace has experienced significant change recently, and your department is expected to respond to change with innovation. Your immediate manager has asked you to determine one specific innovation for your department; you will be responsible for the implementation of this innovation.
Your manager has asked you to first create an informative report in which you explore how this innovation might be implemented. Once they approve or provide feedback on this, they would like you to create a recommendation report for the department manager.
ASSIGNMENT: In Unit 3, you revised the informative report in which you researched several methods for implementing your chosen innovation and compared and contrasted them based on factors that you chose. In this assignment, you will choose one of these methods and write a persuasive composition in which you aim to persuade your audience that this is the best course of action to take in order to implement your innovation.
To write a detailed recommendation, you will need to consider 2-3 criteria that are influencing your recommendation. These should be the same criteria that you evaluated objectively in your comparison/contrast assignment; however, you should look at them through a new lens as you are now aiming to persuade your audience that one method is better suited than the others rather than to inform about the similarities and differences between the methods.
In addition to advocating for the method you have chosen, you should spend at least one body paragraph acknowledging and responding to any counterarguments you anticipate regarding this method. Think about the method you did not choose and why someone might advocate for that method instead. Address those concerns by demonstrating why the method you have chosen is still the best option. Refer to the Unit 4 lesson called “Using Counterarguments” for further instruction on addressing these types of arguments in a persuasive composition.

Please make sure that you are talking about the change in concrete,
tangible terms. You mentioned the interactivity project, so what is the
project involved? What is the main goal of the project? How do you plan to
execute it? What are some internal comm events/activities that you plan
to do to promote the project? Please note that the comm change plan needs
to be very specific.
For example, to guide coalition, what are some actions that you can take as
an internal comm professional? How are you going to get others
(departments, divisions) on board? Do you want to send regular emails and
set up meetings and town halls etc.
How do you plan to address possible resistance (it is very common in a tech
company like Google)? How do you motivate people using internal comm to
convince them that the change is necessary?

Week 10 Assignment – The Effects of Public Policy
As you have learned, public policy is shaped by many factors and therefore evolves over time. For this assignment, you will focus on a specific advocacy organization and identify a policy or law that connects to the chosen organization. This will give you the opportunity to see this evolution within an actual organization and how it affects issues of politics, ethics, integrity, and society.  Your paper should be 5–6 pages in length. Choose an advocacy organization local to you. Then provide the following information:  Identify your chosen organization and supply a brief history of it. Identify and briefly (in 1–2 paragraphs) explain the problem(s) or issue(s) that the organization is intended to address. Define the stated mission goal(s) of the organization. Has its mission goal(s) changed over time? If so, how? Identify one specific policy or law that your chosen organization is currently supporting. Provide information about the policy or law as well and why the organization is supporting it. Be sure to include information on how the organization is supporting that policy or law.  Thinking about the information above, in your opinion, has the organization been successful in achieving its mission goal(s)? Why or why not? Use at least four sources to support your writing. Choose sources that are credible, relevant, and appropriate. Cite each source listed on your sources page at least one time within your assignment. For help with research, writing, and citing sources, access the library or review library guides.
This course requires the use of Strayer Writing Standards. For assistance and information, please refer to the Strayer Writing Standards link in the left-hand menu of your course. In roughly 400-700 words, address the following questions about the assigned art

In roughly 400-700 words, address the following questions about the assigned article, “A Sweet Lullaby for World Music”:
<
<
First paragraph: Briefly summarize what you think are Feld’s overall argument(s) in this article, using mostly your own words and a minimum of quotes. What points is he making broadly about “world music” and globalization, and what do those points have to do with the story he tells about music and musicians?
<
Second paragraph: In your view, would these overall arguments that you just described be better categorized as “celebratory” or “anxious” narratives about “world music”? (These terms are explained in the article itself.) Explain why.
<
Third paragraph: Finally, briefly explain your own opinion on the arguments Feld presented. Do you share his perspective on these topics, or hold a different one? Explain why.
<
Please note that there are many possible ways to address all of these questions. In particular, summarizing the main points in an article like this one is not easy or straightforward, so there is not a single, “correct” answer. However, what matters is that your response reflects careful attention to the article and the related lecture, and an effort to engage to the best of your ability with those ideas.
